Winnipeg police have been working overtime to hand out traffic tickets.
But it's not costing taxpayers money.
Officers are volunteering to come in on days off - at time and a half - specifically for traffic enforcement.
Years ago, the Winnipeg Police Service decentralized the traffic unit, sending officers out of dedicated traffic enforcement and into other investigative roles.
Police Chief Keith McCaskill tells CJOB there are so many calls for service, it can be difficult for officers to handle traffic duties.
Officers are said to be ticketing at least enough drivers to cover costs, but revenue figures are not yet available.
